The following is an excerpt from my book "The Urgent Need of the Hour | Revival Praying"

"When a person takes importunity into their closet, mighty things can happen. When Jesus talked about closet praying, He meant what He said. There is an open reward for those that pray secretly. Your ability to stay with God in prayer will affect your faith. Too many never pray in their “closet”. They are too busy. Prayer for them is the spare tire. It is the flare in the trunk in case they break down one day. Prayer should be our compass, our steering wheel. Praying on your way to work is good but it is not a closet. Your closet could be your basement, your attic or for most, it is their bedroom. A place of seclusion and privacy.

Importunity may be the single most important point in prayer. Without it, prayer can be of a lazy value. It may be sleepy and without faith.  You must decide to pray with this fervency. Do not wait for it to come to you. Take that pressing need and pray hard, pray loud.

According to Oxford dictionary, importunity is defined as “persistence, especially to the point of annoyance”. The root of importunity is the Latin importunitatem, which means "unsuitableness or incivility," and comes from importunus, "unfit or troublesome."

A great example of importunity is a child that wants something. When they want a certain entertainment, food or toy at the store, a child can bring forth amazing importunity. For the last four years, my wife and I have been foster parents. The children have reminded me how to show importunity. They persist so much that the only way to get them to stop is either to give in or to threaten them. Your constant persistence in prayer to God will get His attention. It will move Him. Someone once said, “God does not care until you care”. That is at least partly true. Of course, God cares all the time, but He has chosen the means of prayer to receive from Him. Your concern and your worry should be cast into the lap of the Lord through constant, persistent, painstaking prayer."
